Afghan Election Commission Announces Official Results, Ashraf Ghani Re-elected President
KABUL: The Afghan Election Commission has announced the final official results of the country's presidential elections five months later, Ashraf Ghani has once again become the country's president. Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah has refused to acknowledge the results.
According to the news agency AFP, the head of the election commission, Eve Alam Nuristani, announced the official and final results at the press conference. According to the Election Commission, Ashraf Ghani received 50.64 percent of the vote in the September 28 presidential election.
According to the news agency, the election results have been announced 5 months late. Abdullah Abdullah, the rival of President Ashraf Ghani, had accused the rigging of the election process by not acknowledging the outcome. Abdullah Abdullah had called for a re-counting of votes.
According to the final results, Abdullah Abdullah received 39.52 percent of the vote. In December last year, the Election Commission announced preliminary results which Abdullah Abdullah refused to recognize.
Abdullah Abdullah, in his statement, addressed the Afghan people, supporters, the Election Commission and international allies, saying that they would not recognize the consequences of poor election process until legitimate demands were met.
According to the news agency, Abdullah Abdullah has announced the formation of a balanced government after rejecting the election results.
The preliminary results were to be announced on October 19. "We have done our duty honestly, honestly, responsibly and truthfully," said Election Commission chief Eve Alam Nuristani. We have honored one vote for the survival of democracy.
Since 2001, the current election process has been viewed as the most transparent. Germany also provided biometric machines to ensure a transparent election process so that people could not vote more than once.
Nevertheless, out of the 20 million 70 thousand votes, about one million votes were canceled due to irregularities. The number of people voting in the recent elections has been the lowest in the past.
Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah also had a tough contest in the 2014 presidential elections. On the failure of Abdullah to defeat Abdullah, the United States offered arbitration between the two rivals, resulting in the formation of a national coalition government.
The new government was headed by President Ashraf Ghani and chief executive Tajik Abdullah Abdullah....
